What is Your OS?
Living Abundantly
According to God's Word Series
What is your operating system? Just like the operating system for your computer (iOS, Windows OS, Linux OS) you have an OMOS (Old Man operating system) or GOS (God's operating system). We come from the factory with an OMOS.
In Romans 7 God had Paul write about the struggles he had with his behavior, the default behavior is to not be spiritually minded but carnally minded. This is common to us all; we came from the factory this way. Paul would do things and have desires that were contrary to God's will. He wants to do God's will but he is drawn in the other direction by the old man, the OMOS.
Romans 7:
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man [GOS]:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind,
and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
If Paul had trouble, what hope is there for me? The answer: we have a great big wonder Heavenly Father that has not changed and is waiting for us to come to Him. It is the same God that Paul had that helped him keep his mind on God's will. God is not a respector of persons (Romans 2:11); He wants all to be saved and come unto a knowledge of the truth. He wants all to walk (actively) in His grace.
Ephesians 4:
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation [behavior] the old man,[OMOS]
which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
This is a decision. You decide to put off behavior that which is contrary to God's Will. The behavior is itemized in Ephesians, we'll look at some. But more importantly, be renewed in the spirit of our mind. This is in a passive sense. God didn't tell us to renew our minds, actively changing our minds from old man lusts and actions to God's will. He is telling us to be renewed; which indicates that we are being acted upon and we let it take presedence over the old man behavior. We choose the GOS and not the OMOS.
24 And that ye put on the new man, [GOS]
which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
You put on the new man like putting on a shirt. Most likely you didn't make the shirt but you can wear it. When you believe Romans 10:9 & 10, confess Jesus Christ is lord in your life and believe that God raised him from the dead you are saved, made whole. God gives you the missing piece, His gift of holy spirit. You now have the new GOS at your disposal. You now have a choice to operate the GOS or OMOS.
Below are some OMOS to look out for. God considers this important to know, that is why it is in His Word.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, [OMOS] speak every man truth with his neighbour:
for we are members one of another. [GOS]
26 Be ye angry, [OMOS] and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: [GOS]
27 Neither give place to the devil. [OMOS]
[do not give him room in your life, keep him in perspective which is under your feet]
28 Let him that stole steal no more [OMOS]: but rather let him labour,
working with his hands the thing which is good,
that he may have to give to him that needeth. [GOS]
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth,[OMOS]
but that which is good to the use of edifying,
[corrupt communication is the opposite of that which is good to the use of edifying]
that it may minister grace unto the hearers. [GOS]
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God,
whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, [OMOS]
be put away from you, with all malice:
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. [GOS]
You make the decision to think the thoughts of God and do His will. Then you let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you. When you replace the old man behaviors with the those from the Word you then let the ungodliness be put away. So many riches have been bestowed upon us and we can realize them if we will live our lives and make our decisions according to the Word of God. Do not grieve the holy spirit by living according to your natural man.
Ephesians 5:
1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us,
and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God
for a sweetsmelling savour. [GOS]
Read the rest of Ephesians 5. I encourage you to read chapters 4 and 5 repeatedly. Putting the Word of God in your mind helps you focus on His will. Man has been trying to control the old man nature since the beginning. You cannot control it, you replace it.
I Peter 2:
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people;
that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness
into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God:
which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts,
which war against the soul;
12 Having your conversation [behavior] honest among the Gentiles:
that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works,
which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
The GOS is a choice. Working it in your life is God's job.
Romans 8: (Aramaic Peshitta translation)
5 For those who are [walking] carnally are carnally minded
and those who are [walking] spiritually are spiritually minded.
6 For the thinking of the flesh is death, yet the thinking of the Spirit [is] life and peace,
7 because the thinking of the flesh is an enemy to God,
for it is not subject to the law of God, because it is impossible.
8 And those who are carnal are not able to please God.
9 Now you are not [walking] carnally, but spiritually, if truly the Spirit of God lives in you.
But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this [one] is not his.
10 Now if Christ [is] in you, the body is dead because of sin,
but the Spirit is life because of uprightness.
11 And if the Spirit of that one who raised our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead
lives in you, that one who raised Jesus Christ from the dead will also
make alive your dead bodies
because of his Spirit that lives in you.
[God makes you alive, he changes you, he changes your default operating system
when you make the decision to walk spiritually]
12 Now, my brothers, we are not debtors to the flesh that we should walk in the flesh.
13 For if you live by the flesh, you are going to die.
And if spiritually you put to death the habits of the body, you will have life.
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.
15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear,
but you have received the Spirit of adoption by which we call, “Father, our Father.”
In the morning boot up with God's operating system in stead of the old man operating system. You can even reboot during the day if necessary.
God placed His gift of holy spirit in you. It is your choice to act like it.
