Our Position in Christ
Living Abundantly
According to God's Word Series
Read time: 9 minutes
It is important to know who you are. In our earthly families we know who we are in relationship to others: son, daughter, husband, wife, cousin, aunt, uncle, etc. With this position there is responsibilities. In our jobs, we have our place and responsibilities. In the Body of Christ it is the same, but on a spiritual level. We need to know who we are and what is our responsibilities along with what we can do.
We have learned that it is Christ in us, the hope of glory, Colossians 1:27, and that we can do all that Christ has done and more, John 14:12. However, not many of us are living in that reality. Reality? Yes! Reality. This is real. God is moving among His people and people are rising up to minister to people by healing the sick and casting out devils. God has given us His Word so we can know who we are, what we have and what we can do. First we need to be convinced of who we are. Now, God is not a man that He would lie so we can be assured that everything He tells us is true.
Romans 8
:9 But ye are not in the flesh,
but in the Spirit,
if so be that the Spirit of God dwell
in you.
Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of
his.
:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin;
but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
This is a spiritual reality, we are in the spirit, the spirit of Christ lives within us.
:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage [doulia
- servitude] again to fear;
but ye
have received the Spirit of adoption, [sonship]
whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit,
that we are the
children of God:
We have not received the spirit of servitude but of sonship. In the Old Testament they were given spirit upon condition and that spirit could be lost, they were servants. In this administration, because Jesus Christ came, fulfilled the law, paid the price, and God raised him from the dead; we can be sons and daughters. We are now in the family with the rights and privileges of that position.
Ephesians 1
:15 Wherefore I also,
after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus,
and
love unto all the saints,
:16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of glory,
may give unto you the spirit of [or spiritual] wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
[this is available - expect it]
:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened;
that ye may know what is the hope of his calling,
and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
That the light comes on for you regarding the hope (the anchor of your soul) and the riches or wealth of the glory of his inheritance (sonship remember) in the saints.
:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who
believe,
according to the working of his mighty power,
:20 Which he wrought in Christ,
when he raised him from the dead,
and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Not just great power but exceeding greatness of his power to us! The same power that raised Christ from the dead and set him at God's right hand.
:21 Far above all principality,
and power,
and might,
and dominion,
and every name that is named,
not only in this world,
but also in that which is to come:
:22 And hath put all things under his feet,
and gave him to be the head over all things to the
church,
:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in
all.
Above any force or evil in this world and He has put this under your feet. This is established, the position is repeated: 1) far above all... 2) under his feet. Which is also our feet because Christ is the head of the Body which is the fullness of Christ filling all of us completely.
The truth is that we have Christ in us in all exceeding greatness of power, ability, and authority. We have the right and privilege to do the works that he did and greater.
Ephesians 3
:14 For this cause I bow my knees
unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
:15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
:16 That he would grant you,
according to the riches of his
glory, [a very high standard]
to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner
man;
:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; [because you
believe]
that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, [the
love of God]
:18 May be able to comprehend with all saints
what is the breadth,
and length,
and depth,
and height; [four dimensions, not just three, this must be available]
:19 And to know the love of Christ, [gnisko - experientially know]
which passeth knowledge,
that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. [emphatically completely filled to capacity, fully equipped - this
is a reality]
:20 Now unto him
that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we
ask or think,
[exceeding
abundantly above, not just more than we ask or think]
according to the power that worketh in us,
:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus
throughout all ages,
world without end.
Amen.
God has fully equipped us, filled us to capacity with His power and presence. Now it is up to us to walk in this manner.
Ephesians 4
:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord,
beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye
are called,
Ephesians 5
:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
:2 And walk in love,
as Christ also hath loved us,
and hath given himself for us an
offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
Ephesians 6
:10 Finally, my brethren,
be strong in the Lord,
and in the power of his might.
Whose might? The might of the one we can completely trust in.
:11 Put on the whole armour of God, [endue yourself with]
that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities,
against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places.
We stand spiritually on the Word of God and He takes care of us, be strong and put on the whole armor of God defined below.
:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God,
[take analambano to take up for the purpose of use]
that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand.
:14 Stand therefore,
having your loins girt about with truth,
The loins are the axis of the body where balance is derived, it also contains the seed of life; gird/clothe it with the truth.
and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
The breastplate covers your heart, we have been made righteousness, that guards your heart.
:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Your feet allow you to move and deliver the Word, have them shod/prepared/toughened with the gospel of peace, the Word. See also Romans 10:"15 "How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"
:16 Above all,
taking the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the
wicked.
Your faith in God will nullify anything the adversary can through at you.
:17 And take the helmet of salvation,
[take is dechomai = receive, helmet protects your
mind]
and the sword of the Spirit, [God]
which is the word of God:
The sword is not primarily used as defense but offense, the Word of God is our offense, speak God's promises, they will come to pass.
:18 Praying always
with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, [speaking in tongues],
and watching thereunto [watching with vigilance]
with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
We, the Body of Christ, are instructed to pray for each other as part of the armor of God.
What we have been given is exceedingly above what we could ask or think. God has equipped His children with the tools and ability to live a victorious life that is more than abundant. Truly, we have a great big wonderful Heavenly Father. Let us praise Him, glorify Him, and have compassion for people so they may also be delivered, saved, and come unto a knowledge of the truth.
